Astronaut Searfoss Announced As Keynote Speaker

As the 4th annual NY Tech Summit rapidly approaches, we're excited to announce our keynote speaker to kick off this year's event!

An astronaut with three space missions, Col. Rick Searfoss will share some of mankind's most unique experiences at the NY Tech Summit on June 19. Searfoss' missions include commanding the Space Shuttle Columbia's STS-90 Neurolab flight, the most complex research mission ever flown. He also flew a joint Russian-American mission to the Mir space station.

Searfoss' professional foray into flight began in 1974, when he enrolled in the Air Force Academy to study aeronautical engineering. He graduated as the number one overall, academic, engineering and aeronautical engineering student in 1978. A year later he completed a master's of science in aeronautics at the California Institute of Technology.

After finishing his graduate studies, Searfoss became a fighter and test pilot for the U.S. Air Force. Searfoss has logged 5,600 hours in flight on 70 different types of aircraft. In 1991 Searfoss became an astronaut for NASA, where he logged more than 939 hours in space.

Since retiring from the Air Force and leaving NASA in 1998, Searfoss has become a major proponent of privately-funded initiatives that push the boundaries of the final frontier. Searfoss has held executive-level positions in the aerospace industry and consults regularly for numerous entrepreneurial space companies, such as the Zero Gravity Corporation.

In his spare time, Searfoss enjoys flying, science fiction, backpacking and running. He and his wife Julie have three daughters and reside in California.

We look forward to his keynote speech!
