Wi-Fi Security: Issues and Opportunities in the Mobile and Wireless Age
Speaker/Moderator: Dave Molta
Company: Syracuse University - Center for Business Information Technologies

Securing Wi-Fi networks has been a significant technical and administrative challenge since the initial approval of the IEEE 802.11 standard over 10 years ago. The good news is that enhancements to the standard, including the 802.11i Robust Security Network (RSN) architecture, now provide a strong foundation for securing Wi-Fi networks. The emergence of high-performance 802.11n networks has many enterprises thinking about an all-wireless workplace, but that’s not possible if security issues aren’t addressed. Although 802.11i provides a great foundation, the systems and protocols designed to provide authentication and data encryption are only part of a comprehensive wireless security solution. Attention must also be focused on the integration of authentication and resource authorization, identification and mitigation of rogue AP’s, intrusion detection and protection, denial or service attacks, and secure access from home and public hotspot wireless networks. This session will review current Wi-Fi security standards, product solutions and best practices, helping you identify both the risks and potential rewards associated with mobile computing.

How to Use Cloud Computing: An Example in Content Management
Speaker/Moderator: Fahim Siddiqui
Company: Intralinks

Cloud computing has applications across all business processes. Programs that traditionally required major IT services are freed up “in the cloud” as information is stored and processed on computers outside the enterprise. IntraLinks’ EVP of product development and operations, Fahim Siddiqui, helped pioneer IntraLinks’ leading critical information exchange platform. He will present a technical guide to cloud computing citing specific examples of code and architectural design. Siddiqui will also outline a step-by-step process for creating content management systems in the cloud, beginning with envisioning, architecting and designing, continuing with deploying software to run, and concluding with a discussion of testing your application.

Search Marketing 3.0 - Effects of Social Media and Web 2.0 on Search Marketing
Speaker/Moderator: Sean Branagan
Company: Communigration, Inc.

Search Marketing 1.0 was about on-site optimization (thus, the term SEO) and making your online information visible, relevant and “found” by the search engines. Search Marketing 2.0 has been focused on link development and other off-site optimizations, creating an online universe around your website to show popularity and add meaning. Search Marketing 3.0 is game-changing: It’s about credibility, venerability and brand-building. Search Marketing 3.0 takes some of the best elements of early SEO and combines it with personalization technologies, the power of user-generated content and an emerging semantic web (originally envisioned by the founder of the World Wide Web). Search Marketing 3.0 is still focused on the major search engines, but realizes there are new players in the search game. And from a commercial marketing standpoint, we now have new opportunities to find new prospects and customers

Enterprise 2.0 – Taking on (and Building on) a Culture Change
Speaker/Moderator: Sean Branagan
Company: Communigration, Inc.

The popularity of Web 2.0 and Social Media in our daily lives has created demand and opportunities for organizations to adopt Web 2.0 technologies inside the organization. Dubbed Enterprise 2.0, early indicators are that the issues of security, risk management, compliance and other technical issues are trumped by the culture change needed to take maximum advantage of these powerful people tools. This presentation will discuss some of the early findings of organizations who have adopted Web 2.0 technologies for internal communications, collaboration, and true online community-building. We’ll discuss: What’s the real corporate value of these kinds of interaction? Who’s doing it well? What are the issues an organization must face to really move to an Enterprise 2.0 mindset? And finally, we’ll consider: Are companies who are able to adapt to internal use of these tools better positioned for success in 21st Century markets?

TESTIMONIALS
Gregory Munroe | Genesee Valley BOCES | Network Administrator
"I had a great time. The vendors were very knowledgeable and if they didn’t know about something, they knew of someone who could help. The atmosphere was great, the seminars were very helpful,  the speakers were very engaging, not boring. It was a great place to meet other IT professionals and exchange ideas. Over all it was a great experience.

I recommend that all IT professionals attend this summit."

Karen Smith | Hanes Supply |
"I attended the Tech Summit and was very impressed. Vendors from the IT arena were well represented. Seminars were highly informative and included topics on security, disaster recovery, infrastructure solutions and environmental concerns, just to name a few. Everything was well organized and the venue was perfect. I look forward to attending another Summit in the future."

Scott S. Waschitz | Rochester Democrat and Chronicle | Director/Technology
"Our IT staff found the NY Tech Summit incredibly valuable – much more than we had anticipated. I am used to NYC-style IT tradeshows. While I consider our company to be of respectable size, at those shows we weren’t even on the vendors’ radar. When we would talk to them, we were either brushed off or given minimal face-time. At the Summit, we had quality face-time with every vendor.  We felt like a valued customer and that the vendor was trying to win our business. They demonstrated their products, explained how they could fit into our environment and suggested possible strategies for “selling it” to the Finance-side of the house. The seminars were also very helpful. We were glad to see they weren’t direct vendor sales pitches – but genuine knowledge transfer seminars where, when applicable, some products were highlighted.

Very worthwhile and we greatly appreciated the invitation."

James Giardina | TLC Health Network, Inc. | Director of Telecommunications and WAN
"Your tech summit was first class! I really liked that you had a good cross section representation of equipment vendors and service providers, all being well informed. The education seminars were well planned and an agenda was set in advance; they were short quick and informative. The best part is that I was able to see some new technology, interact with fellow industry peers, and think about the technology and how and where my company can use it today and tomorrow. I appreciate the fact that there was no pressure to buy anything prior, during ,and after the summit."

Al Lucchese | Wayne Finger Lakes B.O.C.E.S | Project Coordinator
"The NY Tech Summit offered a myriad of course options for anyone involved in professions related to networking. As a Project Coordinator for Wayne Finger Lakes B.O.C.E.S, I oversee purchasing, acquisition, installation, and support of educational technology. The Summit provided valuable information that has impacted the quality of my work this past year. Information provided on wireless technologies enriched my knowledge base in ways that allowed me to make informed contributions and decisions for the administrators within the school district I serve. Another benefit gained from the time spent at the summit was in the knowledge I acquired regarding audio-visual devices and connectivity. Conversations held with representatives from Cisco, 3Com, APC, and HP led to insights in new product lines and provided the latest technological updates. It was especially rewarding to be able to connect with other professionals in the field and to have conversations about our work in such an enjoyable setting. I look forward to the 2007 NY Tech Summit in June."
